My music video is 75% performance
and 25% narrative. There will be many different elements to it as I want it to
look like a real metal band. The video begins with a slow motion over exposed
shot of a girl; the main female protagonist. This shot will introduces one of
the main characters and the effects used will help to signify the reminiscent
memories that the main male protagonist has of her. The narrative in the music
video will show the good memories of the relationship that the male lead has
and then the bad memories of the turning point when everything went wrong,
showing the journey the took together. My storyline is linear and it will start
with the good memories and end with an ambiguous image of a dead-end sign
signifying that they’re relationship has run its course. I will vary my shots
with close-ups to follow the codes and conventions of a music video, allowing
the audience to get closer to the band and also medium to long shots to show
the grouping of the band and also to signify the distance the characters now
have from maintaining the course for a healthy relationship.

Alterations made along the way
During the course of the creation of my A2 Media Coursework so far, I've encountered several problems but also some good ideas concerning the quality of my Music Video.
I felt that my initial idea to not include a band performance was foolish and that it was the only way I could truly convey the true metal genre as 95% of the Metal videos I've seen contain at least some band performance.
I also decided that for the editing part of my coursework I would prefer to use Sony Vegas Pro 11.0, rather than Adobe premiere CS6 suggested by the media teachers, as I am more confident with it and I have previously found it to be simpler to use and faster at rendering.

Health and Safety Evidence
For my music video I decided that I will be using slow motion footage of smashing various objects such as box TV's, DVD players etc.
Due to this I had to ensure that my crew were happy with the health and safety precautions that I would enforce.
I made sure that they will all have protective goggles, protective glasses, long sleeved shirts, long trousers, shoes and hard hats for times of severe risk. For example when cleaning the backdrop of debris whilst a TV would be suspended above their heads.

Green Screen Practice
I am inevitably going to be using green screen effects in the creation of my music video, therefore I have started to practice and again, I was unsure how to make the effect on Sony Vegas Pro 11 so I had to use Premiere and I managed it with relative ease.
It's a short 5 second video just to test how it will work out.
In the video there's a small problem; Corey's head goes underneath the lines made by the box and I will create some other green screen videos trying to fix this issue.
Onion skin layering practise 1
I tried out layering videos to show the same person doing 3 different things simultaneously. However, I found out that this was more complicated as I'm using premiere not Sony Vegas right now.
I did find though that you can crop videos and different points to show all 3 people as long as they dont cross the boundaries of the cropping.
Weekend Research Re-do
I recently uploaded a video called "Weekend Research" and I noticed that some of my footage was missing at the end. i assumed I had lost it but it turns out because we switched cameras halfway it was named differently. But now that I have found all my fotage I re-rendered the fixed product and now it shows that we actually draw to a conclusion and find alot of props to use in the last hour of driving around.

Diary 10/07/12
Brainstorm!
I've just had a great idea while talking with my friend about the new video editing software (Sony Vegas Pro 11).
I wanted to experiment with multiple layered video's or "onion skin layers" and be the drummer, guitarist and singer in a band, all at the same time.
I was thinking about this when I realised that in the singers mind in my music video, he's tormented by his undying affections for this girl he can't have.
Because of this, I've decided that it would look really good if as he was sitting all alone in the dark, images of her would materialise one by one and start walking around doing things showing his fading memories and affections of her.
I will be experimenting with the software to see if I can create this technique before I record my music video.

Sony Vegas Pro Research
In the past for my Media Projects I have used Adobe Premiere to edit and create my videos every time. However these were very basic projects, whereas now I'm creating a much larger project. Therefor I did some research into other video editing softwares that YouTube Users prefer as they make the same length videos that I'm currently creating (with relative ease). After reading countless reviews and watching many tutorials it became apparent that the best choice would be Sony Vegas Pro 11. This is down to the fact that it is fast and simple to use whilst maintaining the highest quality when editing videos and from reading reviews its clear that many people prefer it. However I still need to learn about this software so I am following several beginner tutorials to learn the basics and improve my skills. These will be demonstrated in several planning and test projects I will need to create before finally utilizing the skills I've learnt to create my final project.

Animatic
I made a quick animatic of my storyboard in order to further show what I am attempting to create in my Music Video.

Storyboard
This is my storyboard for my music video. I am using both Narrative and Band Performance hence the pictures of the band and the characters as well. The main male character is also the main singer in the band so that there's a clear link between the emotion and message in the song and the characters narrated life.
Music Video Testing
This is a short clip I shot to test the effect of light obscuring the details on my models face. This is not my final model or the right lication I just wanted to see how everything would look on film. The model will be baked but nothing innapropriate will be visible in the clip.
Camera Shot testing
I took a few shots to test out how I would like to see my models in my music video standing together to effectively show their relationship. Possibly even from the perspective of my other model who's in love with this girl but he can't have her.

Artist Styling and Costume Planning
I have picked my Actor and Actress and decided that they will be wearing stereotypical 'Metal' clothing.
The style and the clothing of metal has absorbed elements from influences as diverse as the musical influences from the given genre. It is from this linking of different sub-styles of clothing and music influences that sometimes one can determine specific musical tastes simply from a persons overall appearance.
I've uploaded some pictures for an example of the kind of clothing I'll be aiming for.

Inspiration 1
This is some inspiration that I discovered as I was walking home last night. I found that the flashing light seemed very effective as it seemed both eerie and ominous evoking feelings of fear and or anticipation. I decided that I will use elements such as this flashing light when recording parts of my music video. I really feel this will help make my music video more effective.

Similar Genre Analysis
The reason I have chosen to analyze this music video of a similar genre is that firstly, it is by the same band which means there are a lot of likenesses including the fact that they are both originally metal songs which have both had calmer acoustic covers made and at this stage I think I am going to use the acoustic cover of “Bullet for My Valentine - Say Goodnight” because it will be more effective to evoke emotions of sorrow rather than anger as that is what the screaming suggests to most people despite what the lyrics say.
The reason they have both had acoustic covers made is that the lyrics really do convey deep emotions and feelings effectively
